Default 98 discovery shifter repair

This is my first Land Rover to ever own. As the title suggests, it is a 1998 Discovery. I got the vehicle for free from a guy who just doesn't have the want or need to do the necessary repairs. The shifter and "guts" associated with the shifter in this thing are very corroded. The console was already disassembled when I got it. Are there kits available to replace the whole thing, or would I be better off buying and replacing individual parts? Other than the shifter, this vehicle is in great shape. There's a small leak from one of the power steering hoses, but that's it. I've always worked on my own vehicles, but this is something new to me and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Matt, welcome to the LRF.
1) Your 1998 is a 'D1' and therefore best to post in that sub-forum
2) When you say 'shifter' do you mean the 4WD shifter or the transmission? If the transmission, is it manual or auto?
3) Since you are new you won't be able to post pix yet (I think you need 25 posts) but you can post a link to a photo sharing site ala photobucket or shutterfly and as they say, a photo is worth 1,000 words.

Lastly, go to the 'user cp' section (near the upper left portion of the screen) and put your vehicle details in your signature so you don't have to stipulate in every post you make.

Thank you for the reply. I'll move the thread to the D1 forum.
