Default ABS, TC and Down hill light on

I have a 2001 Disco II with 94K miles and all of the ABS, TC and Down hill light was on so I had all new pads and rotors put on, but the dealer told me that the ECU was bad on it and for now they were able to get the lights out, but they said that they would come back on. I found a used ECU, but they told me that it would not work due to that the ECU was all ready programmed to another Disco. Is this true or are they just trying to get more work and money out of me? If I bought a used ECU are they easy to do it yourself or does it take a tech to put in?

Disco Mike: The ABS works right now and the abs was actually working when the lights were on also, so I don't know what to think.

I replaced the pads and rotors due to they told me that they were all thin and that was the reason the lights were on.

If your ABS is working and your lights are on I would suggest that your truck had a slight glitch, threw a code and is probably OK. Many times when that happens it is caused by one of the wheel sensors being loose, getting dirty and giving bad info to the ECU. I would suggest you go to a shop, have them read your codes and them ask them to clear the codes. Then go drive, if it stays off, you are set, if it doesn't then look at what the code indicates as a problem and get back to us.
By the way, I have my lights come on usually twice a year, and it has always been from my LF wheel sensor. Turn it off and it stays off till I play really hard off road and overheat my DBA rotors.

MIKE

I had this Problem with my LIGHS also - just bought it used 2003 disco 2 se7 with 52,000 miles on it. MY concetn is .. I thought Land rovers were supposed to be high end luxury vehicles. it seems like they have a lot of stupid problems that cost a lot of money. ARE they reallly worh the hassle. Ihave known people with ford expeditions with over 150,000 miles on them & hardly no problems. I have wanted a Discovery for along time. again ARE they worh it to own them ?

thanks

And I bet those For Excressions never made it off the road either.
Yes, we have a few issues and when you get more Rover savey, you will find it is not that expensive to take care of those little pain in the *** problems that come up.
As for are they worth owning, sounds like you haven't been out wheeling yet. Go to the trails section and look at the pictures I posted today.
