Default Afreeze leak

I have a 99 disco II with a small antifreeze leak. When pressure tested we noticed a small trickle coming down the right side of the transmission bell housing. We have tried to look with a mirror but it is hard to see anything. No luck looking down from the top. Seems like a small leak because I only add fluid every three weeks and only about a quart. The other strange oddity is that about the same time the leak was noticed, a witle noise noticed coming from the left rear of the motor close to the fire wall. The wistle only starts when the engine is warmed up. As you give it throttle it gets louder. The truck does not run hot, and runs very smooth. Anyone with any ideas? Fred

Update: I only have 90,000 miles on the odometer, bought it with only 82,000. I will try to check to se which intake bolts are used. Are these motors prone to headgasket failure?

Right side meaning passenger side? Sounds like a Intake gasket possibley. In 1999 they had a update for the intake bolts. If the bolt head has a "S" stamped on it, it is a "soft" bolt and needs to be replaced with a bolt stamped "V". The "s" bolts caused leaking intake gasket because it would loose tension, but the intake may leak over time as well. Usually the "s" bolts would let go during the warranty period and get replaced unless a uninformed tech (who didn't get the memo) reused them. Regardless, intake gaskets will degrade over time. They will leak vacuum causing a whistle in some cases. They will also leak coolant in the 4 corners of the intake manifold ( will run down the bell housing and can run down the fron of the motor as well ).
Hope this helps.

As a 99, like mine, with lots of miles on it, plan on head gaskets if they haven't been done before.
How mechanical are you?

How about Bars stop leak? Used it on an International Scout with a bad head gasket and worked like a champ! Drove the truck for 2 years afterwards before I sold it and never had a problem. Good Idea or bad?
