Default Blinking service engine soon light

I drive a 2002 land rover discovery with about 140k on it. It has been driving fine until earlier today, during a torrential downpour of rain. It immediately started driving rough, with some loss of power, and the service engine light began to flash. I decided to pull over and let things dry out. I parked it somewhere and came back for it a few hours later. After I came back and started driving again, I noticed it was driving smoother(still slightly rough), but the service engine soon light was still flashing. At stop lights, I would notice it sputtering a bit. When i got home, i thought i noticed a slight smell coming from the engine when i got out of the car, but i want sure if this was my imagination. Does anyone know what this Is? It sounds like spark plugs to me, but I'm not sure... I think i just got spark plugs last year. Does anyone know what this can possibly be?? Is it okay to at least drive it to my mechanic shop?

Plug wires can get brittle in these pretty easily due to underhood temps. Mist them with a spray bottle at night and see if you get an electric light show.
