Default Brakes connected to transmission?

I have a problem that I hope that some one can help me with. When my 02 Disco is on and only in park, my shifter thunks/knocks when I step on the brakes. When I have my hand on the shifter, I can feel a knocking when I step on the brakes. Any ideas on what's going on?

Safety interlock to keep you from taking it out of park without your foot on the brake pedal.

Jafir, so its the safety interlock. Is something wrong? It shouldn't be knocking. A loose cable maybe?

That knock is the solenoid retracting the pin so you can shift out of park. It's a single knock, not a repetitive knock, right?

Yes it's a single knock. Is the solenoid bad?
