a.c. compressor and elect. fans not working
This will soon be a major concern, as I live in the Mojave desert. I'm new to my 96 disco but own a 78 Jag, so know enough about Lucas elect. to not be amazed at anything regarding swithes, relays etc. The fuses seem fine and front and rear blowers function but I'm sure that at the least, I would need to get the fans working. I dont know if there's any coolant pressure, but am guess ing that would be a starting point, but don't want to charge it and find out later the system is a complete mess. Where should I start? Thanks
Download the RAVE set of service manuals for free below. Pretty simple HVAC system. When AC is on, and blower on, the front electric condenser fans should come on as well. I would advise you if unfamiliar with the system and not equipped with vac pump and set of gauges that you might want to have the system drawn down and recharged by an indy shop. They can also test for leaks. Now this is also something DIY can do, with enough tools. May not be just a 1 can top off from parts store.
after adding a can of 134 I "hot wired" the compressor, which started and promptly spit it back out (the 134). Good news- no leaks and the comp is ok. After pushing the ac button about 50 times everything came on! I've noticed most of the other switches seem dirty as well. (cruise cont.,fog lights etc.) Is there a spray - lube or contact cleaner, that can be used without having to take the switches apart? Thanks so much for your help.
contact cleaner can work if you can get the nozzle close enough. When working around dash test on a hard to see piece of plastic.... have seen some that will discolor some plastics. If vehicle was parked with windows down and fine dust - might consider compressed air or canned air, shop vac, etc.-
