Default A/C problem

I was on a business trip in Texas and then Arizona last week and did not drive my 2002 Discovery II for about two weeks. Upon my return I started the disco up and turned on the air conditioning and there was a very loud humming noise comming from the glove box area. The noise only gets loud when I have the air set above the second setting otherwise it sounds normal. Any idea what the problem could be ? Thanks ! ! !

You have something stuck in the blower motors squirrel cage, maybe leaves, going to need to remove the glove box to see the blower and clean it out.

Im having the same problem. How are a job is removing the glove box and puttingit back in? Is this as simple as unscrewing it and screwing it back in or will there be more to it I should know in advance?

Thanks for the help!

It is just about that easy.
I haven't done it in years but if you go empty the glove box out it doesn't take much to roll the whole section out leaving the blower motor exposed.

I took off the door to the glove box, but had no idea what to do past that. What do I remove to access the fan? When the glove box door was off, there was a plastic casing with a lot of wires around it. The casing was held on by three large bolts and then three small philips screws. It looked like the fan could drop down somehow from below, but was not sure how to do this.

When you say take whole section out what do you mean? and does it come out of the glove box or from the hole for the fan in the bottom? do you need to take the black casing off that is around that?

I have been trying to find the artical I saw a while back on the whole procedure, and can't. But from what I remember it was pretty easy and straight forward.
You might want to check and post this question on DiscoWeb, or look in their technical section, there should be some info tere.

My 1996 SE air condtioning work intermitently. It has freon anda non-mechanic say the condensor has power to it and suggests I by-pass the auto and just go with a manual switch. Any suggestions before bastardizing?

Also need help with the bonnet & left front door dinger. They're closed but the car doesn't believe it.

Thanks to all.

A permanent switch will over charge the a/c lines and blow them and your compressor all to H---.
Need to get it to a shop and find out why your ECU is not engaging your compressor. Have you notice if your electric fans are working or not?
