Default Cam shaft question

Hello good fellas!! So I am replacing the front crankshaft seal on my 2000 Land Rover Discovery II

I didn't realize I needed a tool or something to lock it in place. I turned it quite a few times both ways trying to get the bolt lossened

My question is
1. did I mess anything up?
and
2. when I after I change it do I have to line up rhe crankshaft or anything? Get it sitting right with the timing belt an stuff?

Thanks guys!

You haven’t wrecked anything, all you’ve done is turn the crankshaft. There are posts in the D2 section on guys putting their wrench on the crankshaft pulley nut and bumping the starter. I made a tool to hold it, quite a simple tool really, and it seems to me a lot safer. When you reinstall the pulley you need to line up the slot in the pulley with a woodruff key on the shaft

Pretty sure the RAVE manual contains all the info you need to set the camshaft in the correct position and ensure that everything is timed correctly.
