Default Can you help with my 2000 range rover mysteries

Just bought a 2000 Range Rover less than 2 weeks ago. Broke the key for my 2000 Discovery so bought the Range Rover for something to drive while we deal with the Discovery key issue. Nightmare so far. Already had to replace the driver's door latch because I could not open door without alarm going off and it shut down the engine.

Mystery 1: Screen with odometer says SPEED LIMIT 20 and the car beeps every time I pass 20 on the spedometer.

Mystery 2: Today it literally just died on the road. I coasted to the construction median. Turned off radio and a/c and then car started fine but ABS and orange TC lights were on. When I turned off the car the screen with odometer said Traction Control failure and Gear Box Fault (I think it said fault but definitely said something about the Gear Box). When I started the car again those lights did not come on again.

Mystery 3: I can literally watch the gas gauge go down as I drive. It is using gas like crazy.

I have had it such a short time and it was at the dealer for the latch problem that I have not even had the oil and filters changed, etc.

Any advice about these problems? They seem serious.

Thanks!

the owner and shop manual set are a free download below, called the RAVE.

SLOW: 20 MPH MAX your road speed is too high for the current ride height
slow down to less than 20 mph

fuel use - Rover's A'int Very Economical (why do you think they call the manual RAVE?).

Check the charging system and battery, if the voltage is to low it will throw all kinds of faults.

Thanks so much. You've help me in the past too. I don't see the RAVE attached but I'll do a search. The speed limit thing must be a crazy sensor or something because I'm only driving on regular paved roads. I've been driving the Discovery for 12 years and thought I was immune to the fuel usage but this Range Rover is WAY worse. I only live about 30 minutes from Savannah so you might find the darn thing in your driveway one day.

Thanks Spike555. Problem with battery/charging would explain the car dying too. It happened right after I jacked the a/c to super high.

Could be a simple as loose battery cables, loose ground, weak alternator. With truck at idle, switch on everything, lights, wiper, AC, fan on high, etc). Voltage across battery terminals should 13.2 or better. With just the truck running at idle you would expect 13.8 - 14.4 volts.

Like SPike said, lots of gremlins killed by new battery.

Hi Xtina01,

I totally agree with Savannah, on RR's and Discos the battery is God and a dying battery throws up gremlins by the truckload due to the plethora of ECU's and electronics. Try a new battery or even borrow a newish battery and see whether the issues disappear. Also get any fault codes read and cleared as there may be a clue there.
