Red face Can't fill up with gas

This is an ongoing issue with my 98 disco. I never thought about asking about it on this site and I'm sure it's been addressed before but here goes-
Occasionally, when I go to the gas station, the stupid rig won't let the gas flow into the tank and kicks off the gas pump- Just as if the tank were full. This always prompts the attendant to ask something like " it only took a gallon..is that about right?" To which I say 'oh Sh**! Not again!"
So, the nozzle has to be carefully, ever so slowly hand operated which can take up to about 10 to 15 minutes to fill. In Oregon we are not allowed to operate the pumps ourselves, so this means some poor, overworked pump jockey has to stand there dribbling gas into my tank rather than setting the auto fill nozzle and walking away to wait on other customers.
This seems to happen at random. empty tank, 1/2 full tank, hot weather, cold weather...

So--- what's the deal? too much air in the tank? plugged up vent? British humor?

Who else has had this trouble and what is the fix?

There is a vent that I have read causes this issue. Not sure on the repair, as I've never had a problem myself

Thanks for trying Dusty1. To ihscouts- I see no message in your reply. The link to search results doesn't say anything either. I hope this is not your way of saying i should do more searching. ??

I didn't find it in my search. I guess you are just a lot smarter than I. On the other hand, I don't spend as much time here as some of you. It must be hard for you.

Yes, being obsessed is a curse. Better get used to it if you plan on working on your rover...

Sorry, not trying to come off as a smart ***, but you will find that most issues have been covered here before.

Just a reminder to some of the members;
