Where in the UK are you both? If you're within shouting distance of Kent/The South East then I'll have a first look at it for you if you like.

New injection pump for a Tdi is unlikely to solve the problem unless it's the genuine cause of it and should be the last thing you replace due to cost. The lift pump is much cheaper at about £50 to £60 for the part + fitting. If you have anything replaced it should be that first.

If the car is a TD5, not a Tdi then the problem is a little harder to diagnose thanks to the added electrickery of the TD5 engine - far from impossible for a DIY mechanic though.

Hi,
thanks for that offer and the tip.

I'm in Bristol, poss too far away for you to have a look at it, not sure if I would trust the car to make it over to the east.....
It's a 1996 TDI with nearly 160.000 miles on the clock.

Going laning on Salisbury plain on the 26th August if you can wait that long... you're more than welcome to come with us, group of 4 or 5 cars so far, should be a blast. We can take a look at it beforehand and there's bound to be passenger seats available if you're not confident about using your own car.

Cheers,

hello all

i've tried a search but can't find what i'm after...

got a mate with a disco v8 lpg, out of tax test, paints a bit bad etc and is thinnking of breaking it...

are the axles, brakes, servo etc of any use to me for my series, for use with the leaf springs? Can't go down the coiler chassis route, but wondered if this was a way to get discs?

also, could you help me put some ball park figures on parts..

v8 with lpg and underslung tanks
gearbox
transferbox
etc

Thansk in advance,

Axles won't be much use to you unless you convert the chassis to coils, or the axles to leaf springs.

You can use the engine, gearbox and transferbox with series axles PROVIDED you make sure the front and rear diff are matched ratios - the gearbox/transferbox combination from the disco V8 is permanent 4WD and you WILL break something if the front and rear diffs aren't the same ratio. Mismatched diffs on a series isn't a problem as the 4WD is selectable and only for use on a surface with minimal traction.

Doesn't help with the problems of stalling diesels much though does it?

Hello Wheston, how are you?

I have the same problem that you have. Did you solve yours? What was causing it?

My car is a 3.9 L Disco I 1994.

Thanks in advance for your help
