Caravan Lights

Default Caravan Lights

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me with the following problem. I have a 2000 disco td5 when i connect my caravan light plug to the black socket on car the nearside caravan lights do not work, all connections in socket seem ok. Any ideas.

I am not sure what you are refering to when you say caravan lights?

You say the socket connections "seem" ok. Have you actually tested them? I'd get, or make, a socket tester. At least here in the states you can buy them that have little LED's in them. But they are easy to make with a spare plug and some small lights. Better yet, just use a volt-ohm meter (better because you'll have other uses for the meter, like testing the bulbs). Make sure all the socket connectors are really ok.
Once that's done, check the bulbs on your caravan. It's unlikely all on one side are burned out, but it's possible.
If they all appear to be good, then see if you have 12v at the light socket. If you don't then I'd trace the wiring on the caravan starting at the plug and working your way back. Pay particular attention to the earth wire(s) in case the nearside has a separate earth that's faulty.

Had the same problem but was caused by fuses. The original fuses are rated too low and need upgrading. Note there is a seperate fuse for each side of the van.
