Hello bought a 2003 Land Rover Discovery couple months ago from my uncle. He got it of auction and decided to sell it. It has 58k miles on it, so i decedied to change my transmission oil and filter not knowing if it was ever changed. changed it at a local mechanic where i go to all the time. Ran the car for like 15 minutes, slowly switched between gears at every about 10 sec. to let the vehicle work on it before acceleration and switched all the way back to P. Started driving it started shaking on first gear, so i kept going my car died couple blocks down. after about 10 mins it stopped shaking and drove normally. later on the day it turned off on its own once but no tranmsission jerk. i was wondering if anyone had a similar problem. I bought an after market oil filter with gasket from orielleys, and used Valvoline Dex/Merc - For Vehicles requiring Dexron III/ Mecron.. my mechanic also poured out about 3.6 quarts (exchange not complete flush) and poured in about 4 quarts could that make a difference?
Oil used for the vehicle
Please let me know anything works!

Very likely unrelated. It would take a major mechanical fault or a stuck on Torque Converter for the transmission to make the car stall, neither very likely from replacing 4 quarts of ATF, even if overfilled by 0.4 quart.
Did the Check Engine Light come on? Any fault codes? When was the last time the Spark Plugs & Wire replaced? Ever had a Crank Sensor put in it?

Yes Check Engine light came on when the vehicle stalled, but when i started it right up it turned off. Also yes i changed the spark plugs about 2-3 months ago. and i replaced the crank shaft sensor about a week ago, my car wouldn't start and actually this forum helped me with that issue (Thank You!) And i realized when i come to a complete stop my car sometimes starts shaking and shuts off. Today i put it in N on the light and it worked normal. Can it be the transmission is throwing some kind of code causing the engine to turn off?
Did the mechanic follow the workshop guide to the refill procedure? It is specific...
I used the same Oreillys filter and Valvoline DexMerc, so materials used not the problem
Do you by any chance know what are the procedures?
When driving and i come to a complete stop my car usually turns off after about 10 seconds running on "D" while at a complete stop. But if i switch it to "N" when i come to a complete stop it doesn't shut off. I changed my Crank shaft position sensor last week but i bought an after market one, which i don't think it should be causing a problem from that.
If he didn't follow this procedure when refilling the transmission fluid, at the very least go shift through all of the gears slowly, (with the engine running) put it back to Park, remove the top fill plug of the trans. and see if any fluid comes out. If not, you should add more. If you don't follow the refill procedure you will end up low on trans fluid.
check engine lamp on? do you have a scanner to plug in and look for any pending codes that have yet to trip a warning lamp?
does the vehicle idle rough, acceleration sluggish? that could be a number of things.
1. Ensure that gearbox is cool. Apply handbrake and securely chock front and rear
wheels. 2. Place a suitable container beneath gearbox. 3. Clean area around oil filler/level and drain plugs. 4. Remove oil drain plug, remove and discard sealing washer. 5. Allow oil to drain. 6. Fit new sealing washer to oil drain plug. 7. Fit automatic gearbox drain plug and tighten to 15 Nm (11 lbf.ft). 8. Remove oil filler/level plug, remove and discard sealing washer. 9. Fill gearbox with recommended oil to bottom of oil level/filler plug hole. + CAPACITIES, FLUIDS,
LUBRICANTS AND SEALANTS,
Lubrication.
10. Select 'P' (Park). 11. Ensure handbrake is applied. 12. Start engine and allow it to idle. 13. Apply footbrake. 14. Move selector lever through all gear positions,
while continuing to fill the gearbox. Select 'P'
Park). 15. With engine idling, continue filling gearbox until
a 2 mm bead of oil runs from oil filler/level plug
hole. 16. Fit new sealing washer to automatic gearbox
filler/level plug, fit plug and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb/ft 17. Stop engine 18. Remove all traces of oil from gearbox casing
