Default Changing T/case fluid, disconnect battery?

I am preparing to change the transfer case fluid on my 1999 Range Rover 4.6. While looking through the workshop manual the other day I noticed that the first step is to disconnect the negative lead of the battery. However, I have never seen any one on these forums recommend such a step. I just wanted confirmation that disconnecting the battery is a CYA step from Land Rover's attorneys, not a difference between the Range Rover and Discovery (which is what most of the threads and how to's pertain to).

That is a "cover their butt" move, the only time I unhook the battery is if I work on anything electrical.
