Climate Control (AC) Issue - please help!
Please. Any help on the below issue would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2002 Land Rover, Range Rover 4.6 HSE and have begun to have problems with the AC. Months back while driving a moderately long distance on a hot day, with my AC turned on and set to Low, I noticed the little Book/! icon pop up on my HVAC display. (AC still blowing cold) I continued on to my destination with the AC off, and after stopping briefly gave it another try; within 5-10 minutes, the iconhad re-appeared,the engine was overheating and I had developed cracks in the hose connecting the top of my radiator to my overflow tank.
I replaced the hose, and to my dismay the radiator(plastic connector became brittle and snapped) at a local RR dealer. The dealer noticed a puddle on the right side floor mat, but I opted out of replacing the heater core o-rings due to the cost of repair. All worked fine for the next two months and in fact I didn't notice any more dampness on the passenger side floor mat and my coolant level didn't seem to dip what so ever.
This last weekend I made a 130 mile trip in the middle of the day, making full use of the AC with no apparent problems or overheating. However on my return trip the next day, the book/! showed up againwithin about 5 minutes of engaging the air conditioning.
I drove home with the AC off without any overheating, and the book/! icon stayed off the entire trip. Since then however, when I engage the AC I hear two or three loud thumps from what sounds like the right side of the engine compartment and the warning (book/!) icon appears again. (although the AC continues to blow cold)
Does anybody have any knowledge of the above problem or any suggestions for diagnosis?
Thanks for your help
Thanks for the quick response Mike. I negelected to mention that I had my idler pulley replaced during service (2 months back) Would this make a difference? How would i check for a bad tensioner/belt
