Default Climbing Idle (yikes!)

Hello all,

So I just had a bit of an experience. I was sitting at a red light when I noticed my idle was a tad high (or so it seemed at about 1600rpm). I made sure I wasn't depressing the gas pedal, which I wasn't. I got a bit concerned, and I decided I would throw it in neutral, should the engine decide to take off. Anyway, once in neutral, the idle started to climb until about the 2500 mark where I killed the ignition. After restarting the vehicle, all seemed to be fine but I am wondering if this is a symptom of a problem I should be wary of. I was (and still am) essentially out of gas if that makes a difference. Also, I apologize if this has already been covered, I am standing in a parking lot writing this on my somewhat barbaric phone, and it would have taken me a week to do any more internet browsing needed to use the search function. Point me in the right direction if that's the case.

Thanks,v

John

Get gas. Fuel pump will like that, it does not prefer to run "naked" in the tank with no fluids to remove heat from the pump itself.

Vac hose leak? Idle Air Control Valve? The short vac hose that goes to the fuel pressure regulator? Any codes or check engine light?

And - which kind of Rover - they come in a variety of flavors and colors, some are priced for delivery by Christmas. Me.. I'm always hoping for a big crate that says Defender Complete Knocked Down. The ultimate thing to put together for the holidays.
