Default diesel particulate filter system

Hello

I own a Disco Sport (2017) and had a problem which I was hoping to get views from people on (and bearing in mind that I have close to zero knowledge about the workings of any form of car!). Its only done 25k miles and used for a mixture of short journeys and 30 min each way commute to work, with the occasional longer weekend journey and/or cross journey journey thrown in.

Recently, the diesel filter system warning light came up and the car went into limp mode. I've taken it to our local garage and he says that the system is blocked and has also damaged the turbo so they both need to be removed and sent off for cleaning/fixing. Once the filter system and turbo are both back with the garage, they said that they'll then put both back in and then try to find the root cause of the problem.

Does anyone have any insight into what might have caused this and/or is it something whic we should have been able to foresee? Is this a common problem with Discos? Any views on what I could point the garage to as a common cause of this with discos?

The garage is trustworthy and reliable so I dont doubt their views. They've quoted me £1700 + vat for the initial fixed (incl 6 hours labour) and then there will be whatever the diagnosis of the root cause costs.

I'd welcome any views!
Thanks

Adam

Did you get any Serive DPF System lights on dash prior to this? Typically, if a DPF system plugs up this fast...it's owner operator error. To much idle time, cruising at minimal speeds (secondry roads), to much stop and go (city driving), to many ten minute drives (running to corner store) or most often the case...never driving the vehicle at highway speeds for at least 30/45 minutes to allow it to do a passive-regen.

When you do get it back, try to avoid all of the things mentioned and try to accomplish the last item mentioned at least once a week...if not more.

Hi The Deputy

Appreciate the response. No, there weren't any DPF indicator lights on the dash before this. Perhaps as you say its nothing suspicious. I only owned it for c.6 months pre covid lockdown but have been working at home for the last 18 months since covid hit which has obviously reduced its outings (typically I have a 30 min drive to work which I would do 3-4 times per week so it would cover what you say). That said, its not that its been sitting idle for 18 months, but there will have been weeks where it hasnt had a proper outing
