Question Dilemma with my 1995 land rover discovery

Hey everyone,

I have a Dilemma with my 1995 land rover discovery I’m debating on selling it or keeping it I have a new baby on the way and cannot afford to put money into it right at this time it runs well and everything works well for a vehicle this age 103,000 mi , leaks very little put new shocks and replaced power steering hoses high pressure and low pressure never had a problem starting in cold or warm weather ac works heat works there is one thing sunroofs do not work. and there is a rattle in the exhaust system witch I have no idea what’s going on there. it sounds like a spray can every now an then, recently it seems to choke when I accelerate if anyone has any idea what this might be and the cost please advise. What I’m thinking is it has something to do with the exhaust system and if I do repair it can I put in used parts? if i do decide to sell it what could be a good price for it?

Get under and hit your catalytic converters with a rubber mallet. If they rattle, they are done. You can get replacement high flow cats from Magnaflow installed for around $300, or order the factory y pipe for $780. If your cats are out, they will melt and clog your exhaust.

I will give you $500 for the rest of it..... =) Oh, and if you post in the Discovery section, you will get more responses from Discovery owners...

Hey Okdiscoguy your truck is looking good .

thanks for the offer but i think i'll keep it. i did take it a while ago to a muffler place and yep its shot,. it is around 200 to 300 i thought it might be more expensive looking online at the factory y pipe for $780 and labor. but local muffler shop is a better option.

thank for the input

you might look on the Magnaflow website and find a local dealer. Tell them what you want to pay. Most places will work with you a little on price.

rattling usually means the ceramic brick in the converter has fractured. This is often caused by a rich afr. you can check for blue/purple coloration on the pipes and shell to verify this. Make sure you fix the problem and change out the sensors before replacing the converters or the new ones will fail twice as quick. Magnaflow offers two replacements for the 1995 3.9L Discovery, Universal and Direct fit in the links below.

I drove my Disco for probably 50-70k miles with rattling cats before I replaced the Y-pipe.
Where are you located, if you're in Georgia I can probably get you a new Y-pipe for under $300.
