Default Disco II stuck in park

I went out to get in my 2000 Discovery yesterday morning, and it would not come out of park. It had been running perfectly normal before then. I have looked around under the it, and nothing looks out of the ordinary. We have been experiencing unusually cold weather recently, but I don't expect that would cause it. Any ideas what could have caused this?

Same problem here about two months ago. Check you brake lights, if they are not working, you will need to repalce the brake light switch. I bought one from the dealer for $13.00. Real easy to replace about 5 mintues tops.

Thanks, it looks like I have the same problem you did. Where is the brake light switch located?

Look above the brake petal. It has a connector with three wires attached to it. It will turn a quarter of a turn.

In the mean time, you can pry up the cover that is around your shifter. Use a flat tip screw driver and remove this cover. You will see a locking pin on the shifter, this keeps it in park. Use a pen or phillips screw driver to depress the pin.
