Default Disco tick question

Like some of you I have the wonderful disco tap once she warns up to temperature.

I have read a good amount of posts on this and other sites about this issue and have been researching for a little while now.

The only difference with my ticking that I notice is at times it goes away.

Its mostly there once she's hot but there are times when I would rav it up hard and it would go away or I would hit a weird angle and it would go away.

There have also been plenty of times that I would get to my destination and I would hear it but after I get back from say the store and I fire her back up the tick is there but will slowly start quieting down.

So I learned from my previous recent post there might be other solutions to problems then to just start ripping things out and replacing them.

So the first cheap thing I wanted to try and get your input in is a thicker oil...

I don't know what the truck ran before I got her but I switched it out to Rottela 10-40

I understand it could be the liners or the lifter and so on. But any suggestions or recommendations for me to try a thicker oil that will not over work the engine would be great. As I think this would a good place to start.

I am planning on testing my oil pressure this week and will have a better idea on what the pump is downing.

Not looking to start a oil war- just suggestions on a thicker thats safe to use oil.

thanks!

I've used 20w-50 down to zero degrees with no adverse affects in both hyd lifter and OHC engines.

Thanks for that info- I think I am gonna try the 15-40 blend of Rottela before I change brands again. I don't see a 20-50 blend in that Brand.

However is there much of a difference from a 10-40 to a 15-40?

Unless any other suggestions I will switch it out tonight and I'll report back on the tick.

In your first post you say you're running Rotella 10W-40. Then you say you're going to try the 15W-40.
I don't think there's a 10W-40 in the Rotella line, so perhaps you're actually using the 10W-30 which is a synthetic blend. If you switch to the 15W-40, that's straight dino so it may not play nicely with the synth.

Busy week.... finally getting back to my disco...

Rotella makes a 10w-40. Its a synthetic oil its a T5 or something.

I am running 10-40 in my disco now not 5-40.

So I am gonna switch it out this week with a 15w-40 but again wondering if going from a 10-40 to a 15w-40 is that much of a difference? If not then I am thinking 20w-40.

thoughts? Thanks!

Regardless of the effect of any change in viscosity, you're complicating things by potentially mixing synthetic and dino oils.
