Default DiscoI Misfire 1316 code

1996 Disco - 130k miles.
Recently had the engine rebuilt at my construction equipment shop. Eveything went well, except check engine light was on and engine idled and ran rough.

I put new plugs and wires, compression was perfect. Still ran rough. Took it to the local Rover Shop to get it fine tuned. They quickly "determined" that it needed a new coil pack. $1,000 and enormous aggravation later. The engine runs just as rough. They put it back on the scanner and got a 1316 code and went on to list all of the possible problems. I was very discouraged with their lack of professionalism and honesty (extremely poor attitude to top it off).

So know I am trying to find an honest answer to get the vehicle running smooth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The CEL light was on. The scan gave a code of 1316. The shop cleared the code and it has not come back on yet.
This seems to be the pattern. The code gets cleared. Engine runs fine for a few days, running a bit rough occasionally. Then it will run rougher at some point and the CEL will come on.

what brand and size plugs and wires did you use?

are you hearing any ticking?

you should start with 8mm magencor wires and some nice Bosch +4 plat plugs, run a can of seafoam in tank.

Plugs - Bosch Super Plus - Size - 13/16" Rover OE plug
Wires - Karlyn STI 663 - Don't know the size of the wires (Part Number: W0133-1622376 - purchased from partsgeek.com)

I do have some ticking. I have been told it is coming from cyl #7. Pretty sure it is the lifter.

I will try the Seafoam as you mention and let you know.

Do you still think I should change the plugs and wires? What is a good place to buy them?

Thanks.

1316 is an excessive emission misfire. Send me your number and I'll call you.
