Default Code 1316....

Hi Guys. Well, Im trying to get my truck smogged and it keeps on throwing random misfire codes and also this damn code, 1316. Any ideas on what to do? Plugs are Champion, wires are STI, and were all changed 4 months ago. Sometimes when I turn my truck off then start it 1 or 2 minutes later it will start then die too.....

Misfires are more than likely being caused by bad wires. Rovers eat plug wires because of the heat off the aluminum engine. Change to Magnecor or LR wires and should fix the problem. Your plugs should be fine bt I would pull them and check to see if they are fouled and if so replace them also.

What year, how many miles on it, what octane gas are you using?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Its a 96 Disco with 119,000 miles. I run 89 octane and occasionally 91. The wires I got were highly recommended by a friend who owns a rover independent repair shop and races in the baja 1000 so I respect his parts choices. How and where would I go about checking for vacuum leaks. I see one hose at the front of the truck that is attached to nothing but goes to the cruise control vac line....

You need to run premium gas ALL THE TIME.
I think that you need new plug wires.

As Spike said you should definitely be running the highest octane gas you can get. I use 93 every time. You should also use Magnecore plug wires, 7mm is the stock size, 8mm is better. To check for vacuum leaks just look at any vacuum lines you can find, just make sure they don't look cracked or rotted anywhere.
