Default do i need this muffler????

96 disco,39,000 miles the rear muffler was coming loose/rotted off/so i took it off, the car is still quiet and runs no different do i need this muffler???

No idea if you need it legally in the USA / SC - a good idea to replace it with either a straight pipe so the exit of the pipe is in the approximate same position or at least to route the exit somewhere where gases can't enter the car easily. My personal opinion would be that if it still meets noise regs there shouldn't be a problem. HTH,

You may need to fit a spark arrestor if you leave it off.

Probably 1/3rd. of the people I know, in the different Rover clubs, have cut their resinator off, some have added a short extension to help vent the exhaust. All it does is get in the way, besides, it sounds better when removed and is not a legally required component of the exhaust system.
Cut it off.

In Texas as most states, you can't have the exhaust exit under a passenger compartment, other than that, you should be ok.
