Default drive shaft lube question.

on the front drive shaft, the 5mm allen that has to come out and you put a zerk fitting in it to lube it. can you just leave the zerk fitting in? my rear one already had a zerk, so i left it. half the lube oozed out of the hole in the time it took me to take off the zerk and put back in the allen.
thanks
jon
