Default Engine quickly overheating...

Hi Guys first time poster asking question for a frind who owns a 99 td5 disco.
Recently had it serviced before going on a trip towing car trailer travelled about 40km car overheats discovers one of the cooler hoses not done up properly causing it too dump all its water back to mechanic puts in new thermostat no good.Long story short now once started boiles after about 4 km mechanic is not taking responsibility for it but thats another story can anyone one help with what it could be head?/head gasket is the engine totally shagged now?
Is it repairable.....HELP.

Are you sure the Thermostat is working properly? I have heard of a lot of faulty thermostats.

You can test by putting in hot water not he stove and put a thermometer in the water or a laser thermometer pointed at it. Wait until it gets to 180F and see if it opens.

If the car was run hot for any duration, the head gasket could be bad.

If the cooling system is all sealed, and you are not losing ay coolant, maybe the head gasket is fine.

Is the Check Engine light on? Is the motor making any noise?
