Question Enginge swap.... Disco wont move?

I changed the engine on my 95 Disco and now the transmission is not operational? Thinking that maybe by some freak instance I did not properly install the torque converter I pulled the transmission. After finding that the torque converter was properly installed and full of fluid I reassembled.

The linkage to the transfer case seemed a bit muddy and hard to put into high/low etc.... I cleaned it and oiled the heck out of it. It is still tough as nails to move around. Am I not putting it in gear completely? Seems silly question I presume yet I'm absolutely baffled.

This rover was previously used as a swamp drag truck and we have been working to make it road worthy for 2 years now. It has a lot of mods and stripped all the frills. Yet I really like the vehicle and hate to see it sit.

If you can roll it while in park the center diff may be in neutral.

the torque converter slid in, you turned it 180 and then slid it in some more ?

Is that the installation procedure? I have only ever removed one.

Yes, I though maybe that when I first replaced the engine that somehow the torque converter had came loose or slip[ forward from the spindle. All logic said it couldn't have but I pulled the transmission anyway. I will be replacing my drive shafts and everything this Sunday with high hopes its just the linkage for the differential.

abran,

pretty much the procedure on all TC, also the number one reason for DYI failure on re-install.
a lot of people don't seat them all the way and when you start the motor up it strip the splines.
hopefully this is not the case.
good luck Liberty Prepper

So... I reinstalled the drive shafts etc. Disco still wont move. I'm beginning to wonder if I did in fact not properly instal the torque convertor. Which in case would make sense why the bastard won't move. Which means I have another question. Did I strip the spindle? Which if was the case, how the **** do I fix that? Or could it just be reinstalled properly?

I have found another transmission on the cheap. So, if I did tear it out... and buy another reinstall what can I do to be assured it doesn't happen again.

Torque convertor installation can be tricky on those HP24 ZF's. the convertor should click in 3 times. First two are easy, third one usually requires alot of force. LR recomends trans out of vehicle, stand on tailshaft end (usually on a rim so the output shaft sticks through) and push down on convertor to fully seat. Alot of fun.
