Hi lrs are incredible to drive on or off the road but I am losing coolant in my 03 freelander w/53000 miles I have owned for three years and i have maybe added less than a gallon in that much driving. We have a slight odor in the cabin and a oily residue on glass like fog that does'nt wipe off I know heater cores can do this but don't they leak in the car on the floor usually? I would love some input
or even a direction to go in

 

is there coolant leaking into your oil?

If there is, it will look milky

Same thing happened to me -- the fog and the coolant leaking into my cabin. It was indeed the heater core (Land Rover Disco II) -- $1500 fix, $225 to clean it through a detailer.

 

exactly the heater core. and check to make sure the fan works. if you wait too long the heater core leaks onto the fan killing it. its more than the heater core itself so don't wait.

oh and look at the fan sticker driverside below the dash. if its pink its leaking.

 

Thanks for the heads up as a matter of fact I did have to change the blower about one year ago and I added a sealer about 2 or 3 months ago and within 4 hrs what a difference no more fog or residue and barely an odor but i guess i will have to keep my eyes on it thank you all for your interest and help

 

there goes your motor.

adding sealant to a LR motor only decreases its life span and ruins it quicker.
