as you have an 03 there's no way to remove the front drive shaft and lock the transfer case to assess damage

I know people who have used JB weld and a scrap piece of metal to patch a hole in the trans.

I bought one with a hole, but it was on the seam of the oil pan so no easy way to patch.

Worth a try.
