Fuel?
please excuse my ignorance here mike cause i do value your opinion but what is an MAF? i`m new to theLR game and am trying to gain as much knowledge as i can,it is a k&n fillter and i`ve used these on all my recent cars from 4clnd to 8clnd for many yearsand so far i havn`t had any adverse effects.ford, gm or other they all seem to preform better with this type of fillter.
On 99 and newer Disco's and Range Rovers, they use a Bosch MAF, mass air flow sensor, which is to sensitive to oil contamination caused by the oil on the K&N filter. So the MAF dies, truck runs like crap and you get to put out $130 for a new MAF.

I started out using premium 93 octane, but I have been using mid-grade ever since gas exceeded $3.00/gallon in South Carolina for my '02 Range Rover. I know the minimum recommended rating is 91, but I just assumed 89 would be okay. Is the 89 doing me damage?

The time you'll see a mileage loss is when the 89 is mixed with Ethanol which per-litre has about 25% less energy than petrol. If their midgrade is entirely petrol and you're not getting any knocking (or timing retardation to prevent it) then mileage should be about the same.
