Fuel tank problem

Default Fuel tank problem

I have a 1983 land rover 90, which is a good runner and a straight diesel. Recently, ive noticed it has been leaking diesel, and its coming from the tank. What can i do to cure problem cheaply without having to replace the tank? I have good practical knowledge, and i am a very good welder.

So I am assuming you are in the UK cause there aren't many of those on this side of the pond.
Where is the fuel leaking from, seal seam, or flat area?
You might want to research a little on a fuel tank exterior leak sealant. It has been awhile, but I do remember seeing some info of this stuff a couple years ago. Might check with a radiator shop and your favorite auto parts store.

Certainly am in UK, and its leaking from the seam i believe , where the body panel meets the tank, in the most awkward place tipically [:@]



Good vintage model anyway!!

Never fails, why they can't leak in a nice flat easy to get to area is beyond me.
Hope you find a good inexpensive fix.

There is several different types of tank repair options availible at the auto parts stores here in the US and I would imagine in the UK too. They range from putty like types to more liquid like types, similar to how JB Weld is when you mix it up out of the tubes. As for welding I have herd that if you dropped it and filled it with water you can weld it without fire danger for petrol types, you may not have to go to that extreme on yours though. If you use a patch kit just make sure it can resist diesel fuel and get the surface as clean as possible with little or no fuel at the time of the repair.
