Default Head gasket work

I'm new to Land Rovers and am looking at a used 2000 Discovery 2. The owner said that it is a "Mechanics Special" and needs a little head gasket work. What does the "Mechanics Special" means and how much it would cost to replace the gasket?

-Thanks

there is no such thing as a little head gasket work, if you go to a dealer easy $2000.00 and all you will get is new gaskets, nothing else.

If you want to get dirty you will need at the very least head gasket kit $180,
head bolts $80,thermostat $20,wires $150,plugs $2-$10 ea.,coolant $20 &
oil and filter $40. so roughly $550.00 in parts and a weekend to do it.

Personally I would replace all the hoses $200, water pump $150 & the serpentine belt $50. while I was there so that another $400.

these price can be shopped I have a 2000 also and i'm trying to remember what I spent.

This is all with out machine work, then you have to add in the cost of that.

how much does he want for this truck that needs a little head work? and how many miles?

The LR has 130,000 miles and the owner is asking $2,500, which seems extremely low to me.

but it's not low if does need head gaskets $2500+$2500= $5000.
if you can do the work and want a disco You could be up and running for $3500.
i think you would be hard pressed to find a disco with new head gasket for $3500.
does the owner have any receipt for work that was done? that would certianly come into play with or dession making.
you should post on the discovery 2 page i bet you get 10 opinion in 10 minutes
