Default Head lights dim and high beam light is always on

I have a 2000 Discovery and lately when I put on the headlights the high beam light come on the dashboard and I cannot "lower" the beams and have the light go off. Had to go somewhere early yesterday morning and it was still dark out. When I put on the headlights the high beam light was on and the head lights were VERY dim. Had to use another vehicle. What parts/bulbs do I need to replace?? Appreciate any help!

Regular head light bulbs. That "dim" bulb is a second lamp, called a "city light" by some, that also is mounted in the head light reflector. It comes on like what the rest of us call parking lights. So your regular bulbs are burned out, or the fuses blown, etc., or the stalk switch.

Thank you so much for your help, again! Can I get the bulbs at a regular auto store or do I need special Land Rover bulbs?

nope most cars are the same when it comes to head lights. its a pretty standard item cost you no more than 50 bucks for bright ones. will take you about 15minutes to install. NEVER touch the glass of the bulb, the oils from your fingers will burn them out in about 20 minutes. you can use a tissue or get latex gloves for the install.

Thank you. When we got in there to change the bulbs we saw that the "clip" type piece where the wires meet the back of the light has a section that looked burnt/melted. I've attached two pictures - hopefully you can see what I mean. What is the name of the piece? I know I need to replace it but why do you think it happened?
