Default Help ! Engine / drive train advice

Hi all,
I own a fantastic lightweight but have had real trouble with the engine from the day I got it,
I have percy veered with the problem but now want shot of the engine, and want to put something more modern that does good mpg and bhp !)
So..... what engines can be mated to the coversion ring ? Petrol or diesel
will an efi engine fit under the hood ? would a v8 serpentine engine fit ?
I am spoilt with the power of a v8 so do not want to trade for less power but would consider v4 with turbo ?
how easy would it be to fit the drivetrain and engine from a defender or discovery ?
what is the cheapest option ? which engine gives best mpg and which engine has best bhp for mpg, I would rather have an engine that does 30 mpg at 140 bhp than an engine that does 40 mpg at 90 bhp
Pleae help ?

Cheers
