Default Help with this thule 953

I bought a thule rack from someone online that said it was on his Disco. It wasn't. It was the 1050 (I think).

I just bought a newish one from Amazon and it came with a totally different lock and **** set up.

The 1050 has a lock which occupies the full **** and has the locking bolt attached which presses into the foot causing the pressure on the roof rail to hold it firm.

The 953 (bolts come from the back and secure into the ****) came with ***** don't lock. I thought I could swipe the locks from the 1050 and use them for the 953 but I guess not.

So, I guess I need to buy new ***** sets and lock sets. That's pricey.

I was thinking about a modification but maybe I should just go with the new gear.

I probably answered myself here.

Duh.

Newer locks have center cylinders way different. I need a set of those.

Just ordered them from a UK seller thru ebay:

Thule 544 One Key 4 Lock Set Lock Cores for Most Thule Rack Systems | eBay

under $35 shipped for the set of four. same as a set of 2 on Amazon.

The newer ones appear to be cheaper and less secure.

You didn't need one person for that whole exchange! Glad you figured it out...

WOW, that reminds me of talking to my wife about what to do on my rover LOL!

Thanks for the info. I have a set of 953 with cross bars I ran for a while, and I always wanted the locking kind and do not have them.

Ha. You talk to your wife about the Rover work. Not me.

I have no one to talk to about this which is why I'm able to have a convo by myself.

Overall, I like this rack...gonna be a breeze to put panels on the roof now.
