Default HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE!!!!

I just purchased an 01' Disco with 86,000 miles on it. I know Rovers are not exactly know for their gas mileage...however......I just filled up and did the math. 50 miles driven, put in 7.536 gallons. That means im only getting 6.634 miles to the gallon....is that normal? What can i do to get the Disco at least up to par?

Default RE: HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE!!!!

1.) Check the test again - fill up to brim full at a given pump at your local gas station, drive a decent distance (50 to 100 miles) re fill to brim full at the same pump - to get such a low result I'd suspect either the math is wrong or there wasn't as much gas in the tank as you thought when you set out.

2.) Re-asses your expectations dependent on what sort of driving you're doing. Let's face it, Sitting stationary in traffic you're getting 0 mpg so if half your 50 mile journey was in heavy traffic you will get crappy average mpgs

3.) Wear lighter shoes that don't weigh your right foot down so much
