Make sure it is all the way in park by hitting the gear shift into park with your palm.
If that does not work read the tech section in the DII section.

Happens on my DI occasionally. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the cause of my problem is a twisted key.

Sometimes when I lock the gas cap cover, or don't put the key fully into the ignition, the key actually torques. It is no longer straight. A little twist 'backwards' with the key half way in the ignition usually fixes the problem.

So check to see if your key is 'true', not deformed in any way.

Have had that happen on my D1 occasionally. I spray some WD40 in the ignition hole and everything is OK again. Haven't had to do it in at least a year. Probably dust as things are often dusty where I go. One of my keys is slightly twisted and I have trouble opening the gas cover lock but the key works fine in the ignition.
