Default Key won't turn...ignition switch replacement?

I thought I may have a failed brake switch, but after talking to a few people, it may appear bigger and would like to see if anyone have some thoughts or advice.

2000 Disco II around 120k miles

Parked the disco the other night, and tried to start it in the morning and the key will not budge, like the steering column is locked.
Tried to unlock, tried looking at all the fuses and anything else I can imagine and then went to the local dealer today, who told me it was going to be $1000 and a month wait to replace the ignigtion switch.

Anyone know a repair shop in the NJ/NYC area?

Thanks

This is pretty obvious, but I'll mention it anyway:

It is possible, after you turn the key to 0, for the steering gear to *lean* on the key interlock so hard that you can't turn the key.

Have you put the key in, and rocked the wheel back and forth a little bit to see if it releases the key to turn?

There are lots of interlocks on a Landy, but I'm *not* aware of one that keeps the key from turning.
