Default Immobiliser issues on Discovery 2 V8?

Disco 2 V8 stops at lights, wont start, although starter motor works. Then intermittently is starts and works fine for 5 mins or so (seems to start OK when cold) Had at mechanic look at it who says when it fails it locks out main ECU (they only have basic OBD scanner) and they cant then access computer to determine fault codes or isolate. Also they say no spark and fuel when in fault mode. They think immobiliser ECU is cutting out main ECU thus why no readings on scanner? Also I can remember seeing the M & S light come on flashing together on way home just before it failed. immobiliser light is OFF when I am trying to crank it over.

PS,, only had this landy 3 weeks! as was running sweet up until this..

You need a new mechanic. To fix the no start, have some one test the crank sensor for the lack of a signal and then replace it.
If you have a light flashing issue, clean and tighten your battery cables then get the voltage checked at the local parts store, should be between 13.6 and 14.4 volts.

Smile All fixed!

Hey Mike, you are a legend.
Bought another crank angle sensor, fitted it and away she went!
Also retightned battery terminals (mechanic must have taken it off), and lights all cleared.
This forum saved me $$ hundreds, as my next step was to take it to a Dealer!

Regards
Dave
