Hey guys and gals. My power steering gearbox is leaking from the Piston/Rack adjuster screw located on the Passenger sideof my LHD 2003 Discovery II. It's the screw that is about an inch in diameterthat looks like agiant screw head. I cannot find any information on what that screw actually adjusts (not in Rave manual) or if it can/cannot be completely removed for servicing. I have found a diagram at british pacific that shows the exploded gearbox and there DOES appear to be a seal/washer in there but it is the ONE that is not available for purchase. Does anybody know what this screw adjusts (not even my local rover specialist can tell me) and whether or not it can be removed. I have been considering draining the system and seeing if I can unscrew it enough to silicone the threads and screw it back in to the same place to see if that works - maybe teflon tape? I tried lucas'p/sstop leak already and it ain't workin at all! I need an expert here! Any help is appreciated in my effort to try to avoid purchasing my2ND!! P/S Gearbox in two years, thanks!

Did you wrench on the little hex holding that screw in? That will set it in a bind and cause it to leak.
You can take it out and find an o-ring to go back in, but I just took mine out a little and wrapped in teflon tape. Take care to not tighten the set screw (little hex) too tight, or it will leak again. If you take out the big one all of the way, you will have to re-fill and bleed the system.

On 97 Disco I
I had a bad leak from the steering gearbox shaft seal (rear). This leak was 10-15 drops per minute. While trying to find a clean used gear box I tried a couple of stop leak additives without success. The last one I used proved to do the trick. It is: Bar's Transmission stop leak. I originally used it in limited quantity per the label. The leak slowed considerably but did not stop. When I refilled with the specified fluid the leak would revert back to heavy leakage. I sucked all the fluid out with a turkey baster and refilled with 100% Bar's stop leak. It took about two weeks of driving and two bottles of Bars to seal the leak. I now only have to add a little bit during routine fluid checks. System has been operating with 100% bars for over a year and runs quiet and with no noticeable leakage.
The Bars power steering Stop Leak was not used.
