Hello gents. I'm looking to get some advice. I'm looking at buying a new used car. I'll be buying it in Albuquerque New Mexico. I was thinking of a Land Rover as one of the cars, as opposed to a TDI VW Golf.

I've had a TDI before but was forced to sell it. I was thinking of getting one but I keep hearing about Land Rovers from someone I trust, who says that they're the best 4x4 out there. I was wanting to do a bit of off road fun, since I'm going back to New Mexico so I thought I'd give LR a look.

What I'm curious about is the 2nd hand market. For someone like me who can change the oil, is a Land Rover a good buy? How expensive are they to maintain? Why do they all show up with around 90k miles on them? Does something go wrong at 100k? How many miles can I expect to get from a 2nd hand rover?

What do I look for when buying a Rover? What things to test and check? I've got 10k to spend on it. I was thinking of buying one priced at 8k and spending 2k on it in the shop to clean it up a bit.

do a search on the forum and check out the disco section. there are some stickys about problems, differences in models etc.

 

X2 on the search, there are different issues depending on the year. You're doing the right thing by asking questions first. These trucks do require attention, but if you stay on top of the maintenance, Rovers are the best out there for sure and with $10K to play with you should have NO trouble finding the one for you.

To answer your question as to why you are finding only 90k trucks...
Think about it, how long does the average person keep a car? 3-5 years, and at the average of 12k per year that puts it in the 40-45k range when they sell it.
Second person buys it...you get the idea.
