Default loud clunk when select reverse

hi folks,i just bought a disco300tdi auto and its developed a loud clunk when you select reverse sounds like its taking up slack on somethin ive checked ujs and there fine,seems to be a lot of play on front prop but i dont know anything about these beastys any suggestions as to what it might be(praying its not fit for scrap only had it a week)[X(]

Do the two u-joints in the double cardon that attaches to the t/case, have grease fittings, if not, there is your problem, most likely they have failed, very normal on D2's.
Remove the shaft ASAP and have it rebuilt, othere wise when it fails, you can loose your tranny.

thanks for replying Mike,ive had a look and the uj's have grease nipples and dont seem to have any play,but if i hold the propshaft i can twist it to and fro so play seems to be in front diff and where prop goes into transfer box,dont know if this is normal,also have noticed its worse when warmed up,first go into reverse in morning its not so noticable,ive checked oil levels in both boxes and both fine.
