LR3 Brake Switch Gremlin
I'm having all the normal signs of the brake light switch going bad even after I replaced the brake switch.
Symptoms: When driving first thing in the morning the transmission doesn't want to shift out of first gear. Switched to M/S and it shifts fine but a few seconds after that the fault codes light up the dash and message board(DSC unavailable, suspension lowering, transmission fault, along with the corresponding amber lights). Parked it and I have no brake lights.
I called around looking for the brake light switch and found one at the local Ford dealership. Land Rover dealership is about an hour away and they said it would take 2 days to get. I drove to the Ford dealership (15 miles) with no problems, brake lights worked. Installed the new switch (Ford part number) and went on with my day driving another 30 miles with no problems.
Next day exact same symptoms happen in the morning. Brakes lights worked at first, then didn't. Lights and codes came back. I turned around and parked it. Currently after sitting an hour and restarting all codes and lights have left the dash.
Battery checked out good, only 3 months old. (12.8v truck not running)
Checked the wiring in the drivers foot well area because I recently had a sunroof drain flood the driver floorboard but I didn't see any corroded or cut wires.
Brake light bulbs are original OEM Land Rover and don't seem to be bad because they sometimes work.
Checked the transmission ECU behind the battery for water damage, none visible.
Any more suggestions on where to look before I take it in for a diagnostic?
I suspect an electrical gremlin because of the water in the foot well but I'm not even sure if any of the wires down there could cause these problems.
