Default LR3 transmission not shifting

transmission does not shift when no special modes selected. will shift when I select snow mode and also in manual shift.
at one point info centre displayed transmission fault, switched vehicle off and waited. started vehicle and warnings no longer display but same shifting issue?

took to land rover shop. found the break lights were not switching off. replaced the break switch. problem still exists. noticed the break lights still staying on at times which appears to relate to the shifting issue. could this just be a second faulty break switch or should I be looking somewhere else?
after driving the vehicle in manual shift, eventually the break light comes on, then the transmission fault displays on the info centre and the suspension lowers?
my thought is that this is all related to the breaks?
HELP!

could be several things, could be the terrain response switch, could be a damaged shifter, both get water or coffee and soda and ruin them or a certain wire going somewhere.

you got any water leaks.

And how could you take it to a LR shop and they not fix the problem?
Did you pay to have the codes looked at or ask for actual diagnosis.

Smile i think i have a fix?

after reviewing many blogs, found someone with similar issues. he found the problem was a bad ground between the battery and the vehicle. i had the vehicle booked for the service this am but before i left, i tightened the ground and positive leads on the battery terminals. i could not get the vehicle to fault at all, drove around for close to an hour with no issues at all! Stopped by the repair shop, he cleared all the codes. my wife drove the kids around all day with no issues!!
some points to note: we had other strange things happening before i tightened the terminals.
1. the car would not switch off
2. the dash light cluster was intermittent

if this is indeed the fix it would be a good place to start before following the code faults with potentially costly repairs in the troubleshooting process.

time to reunite with the LR3
