I just purchased a 2003 Discovery SE7 with 73000 miles but I have some issues. Supossedly the 'M' transmission mode can be engaged by pressing the 'Mode' switch while in Low Gear using the gearbox lever. When I enter the Low Gear and press the 'Mode' switch, all i get is the 'S' lighting up. I thought that sport mode only works in 'High Gear' and manual modewill workin 'Low Gear'. What is going on?

Secondly, the HDC (hill descent control) will not operate. I enter 'Low Gear' and press the HDC button anddescend down a steep slope. All that happens is the green HDC light flashes and the warning chime sounds. The HDC wont work!

Any thoughts?

You mus have the t/case in low gear to make either of these functions work.

Yes , I had the transfer case in Low Gear and the 'M' mode indicator light will not come on, only the 'S' mode light illuminates when the mode button is pressed-----and the HDC will not operate, the green indicator light only flashing and a warning chime continuously rings until I turn off the HDC switch - so neither of these options will function with the t/case in Low Gear...
What can I do?

Do you have any ABS warning lights on?

 

There are no ABS warning lights that are constant, but the "three amigos" have showed themselves about 4 times since I bought the truck last week ....Last Friday , went to the dealer - the Dealer pulled/cleared the ABS codes and said that none were present. The '3 lights' came on yesterday morning but went off after I restarted the car. Theyare not illuminated whenIshift the t/case into Low Gear and try to activate the "M" mode or the HDC.....

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but what are the three amigos? I have three lights and will sometimes illuminate when I first hit the brake and they immediately go out. It is the traction control, abs, and parking brake light and they will flash sometimes when I hit the brake. Are those the three amigos?

I don't understand it but tonight I engaged the transfer case into 'Low Gear' to try the HDC and 'M' mode and the BOTH WORKED!!
????????? (I still have the intermittent 3 amigos though....)

Aaron, still need to get your truck in the shop when the lights are on so you can find out what is causing it.
