Malfunctioning immobilizer/key
I've got aproblem with the immobilizer on my Disco 2 2001.
I just bought it yesterday (my first LR
) and had a couple of stops on the way home. I had no problem starting the car or locking/unlocking it with the remote key. But…
When I got home, the car wouldn't lock with the remote. Later it wouldn't start. I can manage to fool the immobilizer by disconnecting the battery. When I reconnect Ican turn the engine on within 30 seconds. When I turn the engine off again, the immobilizer sets in 30 seconds after closing the door, and I'm back at thestart.
I'm lookingfor an easy and cheap fix. Either I want to get the immobilizer working again,or I want to bypass it. Another problem is that the key doesn't turn in thedoor (I'm going to try lubricating it), so preferably I'd like the remoteworking again.
I've read that the IDM/fuse box can create problems if moist?
I also read something about the crankshaft position sensor, but I doubt it should affect the immobilizer, or am I wrong?
I'd be extremely happy for any clues, ideas, suggestions or anything J

Shop manual and electrical guides in the RAVE which has links below (Rover name for shop manual set). Door switch is most likely issue, it has a tiny contact that signals the system to unlock/lock and thereby mobilse/immobilise.
There is no bypass. The ECU is built to exchange digital data with other modules.
CKP sensor sows up as no crank when engine hot at first. Won't have sparks.
