Hi all I’m 100% new to Forums normally I just read and and watch YouTube videos to figure out my problems But I can’t get this one figured out. I’ve rebuilt many Land Rover defender’s all Diesel 2.0n/a 200 tdi 300tdi.... now I’m working on a 2002 Discovery 2 with a Bosch 4.0 engine in it. I replaced all the injectors as I was getting a misfire code. Everything went together great no problems now when I start it takes 40-50 seconds to cranking before it fire after it’s running if I turn it off and turn it right back on It fires right up. If I let it sit for 20-30 minutes it takes 40 to 50 seconds Of cranking before it fires. I drove around for two hours last night highways back roads it ran great no more fault codes lots of power no problems. I can’t figure out what’s going on. Do I need to bleed the fuel rail of air? Is there something I’m missing? Thank you so much for your input I appreciate it.

 

Is there a check valve in the fuel pump that's allow the pressure to bleed down? Common problem with old BMWs. 40-50 seconds sounds a little extreme however. Any visible leaks? Can you put a pressure gauge on the rail and see what the pressure is like when you attempt a cold start? This would rule out fuel pressure and point you in another direction.

 

No visible leaks. I’ll put fuel pressure gauge on and check it.

No visible leaks I put a new fuel pump in good feel pressure. Everything I’ve done to this point is new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new injectors,and new fuel pump. She runs great after she starts. Starting still takes 20 to 30 seconds, And There isfuel smell coming out of the exhaust on cold start ups. After first start up she starts right up after five minutes but if it sits for 20 minutes it’s a hard start again. I live in Texas so it’s hot even after 20 minutes.
Any ideas? My only thought is the injectors I got are leaking. I did not get original Bosch.
