Ive been meaning to sign up, finally made some time to do so. I have a 2000 discovery, tranny finally broke down. I bought a 2004 transmission with transfer case only 60 k miles on it. Pretty happy about this find. Was wondering if this is compatible to my 2000. Please say "yes" thank you.

Two different part numbers for the tranny, one is for a 4.0 and the other a 4.6. And from the RAVE:
On NAS market vehicles from 03 model year, the ZF 4HP24 transmission unit is introduced for use with the 4.6 litre V8 engine. This transmission is required to accomodate the increased power output of the larger engine. The ZF 4HP22 transmission remains in use on vehicles with Td5 and 4.0 litre V8 engines.
Both transmission units are of similar construction, with the ZF 4HP24 unit being 15 mm longer than the 4HP22 unit to accomodate a larger fluid pump. The operation of both transmission units is the same.
Let us have a few others comment about mounting (longer) and use of one transmission computer vs another, etc.

I'm not saying it won't work. But length might be an issue. Also I don't know if tranny computer is the same, and if engine computer needs to know it has a different transmission, etc. The tranny computer and the engine computer send text messages between each other more frequently than a whole squad of high school cheerleaders. About engine load, etc., so shift points can be re-computed. And whenever two computers are talking about something, they have to be on the same page.
