Transmission on the discoII will not shift into park?[&:]

pry off the shift selector trim piece. there is a little 'C' clip that goes around teh lift shaft and secures the shift button. Those sometimes break. They are about 50 cents at ACE hardware to replace. Once the lift **** is exposed in a pinch you can just grab it with your fingers and change geats to move the vehicle.

The other culprity can be the brake pedal switch which is a saftey switch on the pedal column and these fail without warning and immobilize the shift motor. they are about 15.00 to replce form Pep boys or Merles, it is an AC delco part used on all sort so of american models too. form teh facny rover parts suppliers it is about 60 bucks.

Beyond these two items, broken linkage cable or something worse.

Anthony here again. Can anyone give me a little more help with this trans shifting problem? I have ruled out the shifter and cable as I disconnected the cable and shifted the trans by hand into park but when I try to adj for park I then cannot put into 1st???
