DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.

Such a waste of time for all of us here. Google this stuff

Shell Rotella, either 15W40 conventional if you operate above 15F, or 5W40 syn. Concept is that a diesel rated oil has more cleaning compounds in it and (because of soot control for a diesel) does a better job of keeping stuff in suspension so filter can trap it. Big filter adds additional capability.

Buy two jugs. It will take 6.1 to 6.6 quarts depending on if you have an oil cooler.

Number one concept - change oil every 5,000 miles. Not 7500 (book), not 15,000 (ad weasels), not 25,000 (ad weasels employed by Amsoil). Ad weasels add additional attributes to additives and at the present accelerated rate of preposterous claims we'll have car wax that removes dents, tire shine that re-grows tread, and wrinkle cream that works on SWMBO!!!

Lucas is fine if you enjoy it. They'll run either way, with or without it. Too much Lucas oil treatment will whip into a foam like mayonaise, and air bubbles don't provide lubrication (I tried straight Lucas in a bush hog gear box). Stay with the instructions on the bottle.

Of course, the more posts on here the better, as our supporting ad weasels pay by the ad viewed, and continue to support this fine site which we all enjoy.

One thing many new owners enjoy is the free download of the RAVE, the Rover Automated Viewing Environment (Some think it stands for Rovers Ain't Very Economical). This set of factory shop manuals includes most everything you will need to know about your truck. And this site is here for the rest of it.

Dan, with our dirty engines, you do 3000 mile changes on dino and no more the 5000 on synthetic especially with more then 100,000 on the clock.
