Exclamation oil pan rattle/rumble at start-up

Hi, I am the proud owner of a 2000 LR disco 2. I am having a problem that I would like to take care of asap! Upon start up their is a rumble/rattle coming from the oilpan area. Im almost positive its that and not an exuast leak or something. It is worst on a cold start like overnight. Its not that loud (yet) lasts anywheres from 5 to 20 seconds at most and usally is worst right before it stops. Could this be the oil pump or oil pick up/ strainer??? 117,000 miles currently using mobil 1 10w-30 and mobil 1 oil filter. every thing else is fine taking care of alot of stuff....front driveshaft, plugs/wires, etc etc etc..... also it goes away if you rev it and is only at start. would appreciate any help before dropping pan and or dealership visit!!!! Thanks...Brett ..also sometimes if i run the ac a long time and then when i shut it off their is a slight rattle/rumble, dont know if thats connected to this problem in any way yet though

First things first, 10w-30 is to thin for these engines, especially in FL.
You are going to need to have your oil pressure tested, avoid the dealer, find a indie shop.
When did this noise start?
After your last oil change?
2 months ago...when?

Cheap and easy thing you may want to check out 1st: The driver's side cat. convert. has a heat shield on top of it, adjacent to the oil pan...my girlfriend's DII has the exact same symptoms you described above, and I found one of the spot welds on the heat shield is broken. Band clamp install today to remedy until I get time to weld it.

Thanks for the replys! OK Its not the cats or exuast I used a little piece of wood and it is definately right at the bottom of the oil pan.. well It was their when i bought it about 6 months ago but VERY VERY faint! I changed the oil and so far it is getting just a little worse. Its been on jacks because im rebuilding calipers and some other stuff. Okay first things first, Ill try the 15w 40 rotella and get the pressure checked out! Give me some time as I need tires too. Once this happens Ill get back to you! Thanks SPIKE!
